SOS on a phone means it can't access its own cell network, but it is able to make emergency calls. It is usually caused by no network coverage, a weak signal or the SIM card. It can also be the result of carrier outages, billing issues, or software issues. Your phone could even enter SOS mode if it is unable to connect to a cell tower or is in a dense and congested area. Likewise, if the SIM card is damaged or not inserted correctly, your phone may not be able to connect to your carrier and activate this mode.
